Feeding chickens/rabbits from my property?

DefaultFeeding chickens/rabbits from my property?

As part of my long term preps I'm wanting to raise chickens and rabbits for meat and eggs, but feeding them is not sustainable if I'm buying bags of feed. I only want to keep 6 hens and a rooster for eggs and meat and I would like to keep two bucks and four does as breeding stock. I am completely willing to grow pumpkin, watermelon, corn and sunflowers to feed the chickens along with giving them everything we don't eat, including extra fruits and left over parts from butchering, and I'm willing to plant extra greens and carrots in the garden for the rabbits as well as sprouting seeds for them. I have read that I can give rabbits a large amount of grass from the yard but they won't grow as fast or be able to breed as often, which is fine with me, and that chickens won't lay every day when they are being fed feeds like this instead of commercial feeds, but that isn't a problem to me because one day I might not be able to give them a bag of layer food. Is there anyone here who does this and can give me any tips on raising these two animals? Also, if you have any other recommendations on what I should raise to provide for my family I would gladly accept any ideas.
