Well, that's why I checked it in the other FT-60R. That HT reads the same, so the "on-board circuit" in both is reading the same.
I'm not active on the HAM freqs so don't use the units, just try to keep them maintained. It seems to work just fine, but I'm sure the time would be limited because of the amps, as you mentioned. It's not really a big, massive problem. I can order another one or load the AA battery pack I have with Eneloops and get a better battery (1900 mAH vs 1400 with the original Yaesu battery).
