It was timed to be a poison pill for a Republican administration. Such a conservative administration would, no doubt, be in the mid'st of fiscal austerity and economic sanity, and blame would fall on cost-cutting measures, particularly if accompanied by tax cuts, even if they raise revenue.

Conversely, if this happens in a Democrat administration, that would mean that people had 8 years of Obama and didn't know any better, so how could it hurt Democrats if the electorate is already too dumb to understand basic arithmetic?

If you look back on Obamacare posts from 4-5 years ago, people, myself included, saw this coming from a billion miles away.
