DIY pack mods: pic heavy

OK. Lets see if I can get some pics inserted with text. I'm gonna post the pics as a test, then go back and edit in text.

Hmmm. OK thumbnails, not how I wanted but ok.

I am modding a Sea to Summit 65L Hydraulic pack, to accept a large PALS panel.

The first pic top left is the material with the lines laid out for the vertical columns of stitch lines , 1000 denier poly coated Cordura, T69 solution dyed nylon mil spec thread.

The second top row is the first edge seam. The third is beginning to hot glue on the 1 inch mil spec nylon webbing (I forget the actual mil spec number). I start the first row, then use another length of webbing to space down. Glue spots on the vertical stitch lines.

Fourth from left is showing how I sew the lines of stitch. I start in one corner, and just sow down that line, turn, sew along the seam stitch, then turn and sew back the other way. I basically sew a non stop maze of one line stitch throughout. The end seams end up triple stitched as I pass over them. Lockstitches at the start and final stop. Cut threads and melt tags.

Fifth pic is a 420 denier gray back panel that is sewn behind the finished PALS panel, to form 2 pockets. Some things I don't want swinging around off the PALS, but don't want them in the main pack either. The pockets are open at the top, one pocket has an opening along the bottom edge to allow a fishing pole to be inserted. I will show some pics of that at the end.

Bottom left pic shows the pocket, with a waterproof fire kit inside.

Bottom right pic is the Hydraulic, with the PALS panel mounted to the pack.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
