Face it, your congresscritter is unlikely to ever read your letter personally. His staff will, however, and probably compile your opinion with others.
That said, you should keep letters short and succinct. A three page ramble on why suppressors should be purchased over the counter is probably not going to get read past the first paragraph. Ideally, a letter/email etc should only cover one topic, although as you will see below, I violated this guideline.
So here is the meat and potatoes of a letter I sent to my Senators a day or so ago. I covered 5 issues of importance to me. I tried not to(and maybe failed) tell them how to fix the problem. That would not matter to them.
1-Obamacare. It must be repealed in it's present form. If a Government Health Care System is required -and I don't think it is- then it should be based on a private enterprise system.
2-Securing our borders. This seems so basic, I even hesitate to mention it. A rework of our immigration laws, allowing some kind of "guest worker" program is vital.
3-Jobs. Our small businesses have been choked by excessive government restrictions, from health to environmental issues. It's time to sweep away the deadwood and let Americans do what they do best.
4-Second Amendment issues. It's time to take a hard look at the ATF, NFA, and other issues that cost the government a lot of money, and do nothing to prevent crime.
5-The size of the Federal Government is simply out of control.
So, bottom line, I say give them the task, and don't try to tell them how to do it. Keep it short, and to the point.
Now it's time for YOU to tell them what you think.
