New AR Fan...awesome gun. Suggestions from scope?

Been shooting long guns for over 20 years. My joy has been target reaching out there...love reloading, windage and pressure calls, etc. This has been my enjoyment and firearms world for a long time. Really fun hobby for me.

So, a friend let's me shoot his AR-15, and although not a target gun necessarily, I had an absolute ball! So, I jumped in and bought a middle of the road DPM AR.

I thought the metal sights would be fine, and therefore, did not buy a scope. Well, I enjoyed the scope and was more accurate.

The scope he had a wide angle, somewhat "squarish" optical with flip up caps. There was a little bit of target magnification, if any. But, it did have a red dot that helped with target aim. I am not looking for dead nuts on or a grouping like my long guns, but am looking for better than I can currently achieve.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be most welcome and appreciated, as this is a new world for me. Not wanting to spend a ton, but not looking at chinamart stuff either.
