Starting out with metal detectors.

So I'm looking at getting started into metal detecting and I'm also looking at getting my mom a gift metal detector also. She's been saying for years she was interested and I'm simply interested in find things in two places: On my new property and at the beach. We don't know anything about the equipment and I was considering just getting started with the one I saw at D ick's Sporting Goods and Academy Sports and Outdoors. It's a "Bounty Hunter Tracker IV" metal detector sold in those stores for $100. It looks like some Walmart locations have them for about $80.

That's the one. Do we have any experts here willing to give some input? All of us are on a tight budget and we are just looking for something simple that actually works. Thanks.
