water purification from petrolium products

been working on my water prepps of late and have decided that in any given situation, my local water scoure is going to suffer from oil and diesel contamination as its a canel used by boats.

so very very faint amount, is it all surface layer? is it as easy as extracting from below the surface level.

what is the preffered choice of petrolium product removel from water. i would like to find a non energy using method so gravity rather than pumps, what filters work or is it a methodoligy in its removel?
