Pipe Bomb found at Virginia Battle Reenactment

http://ift.tt/2yqWZRP

This is a new development in the "monument" saga. Unlike the threats made against Gettysburg, someone actually planted a bomb this time.

I would like to point a few details out.

First, The Cedar Creek Battlefield isn't very large, nor does it attract the attention that Antietam, Gettysburg or Petersburg has. I could see this as a trial run for a future effort.

Second, Middletown is very close to two major interstates (I-81 and I-66). The scenic Route 11 runs through the town. An attacker would have plenty of escape routes to choose from.

Third, the bomb(s) were found in the food and souvenir vendor area, not the reenacting camps or the battlefield itself. This area has more foot traffic.

Finally, the battlefield is far enough away from the major news markets to ensure that the coverage stays local.

Has anyone else seen or heard of similar incidents at any other Civil War battlefields? Feel free to discuss...could this be the next step in the monuments drama?

Let's block ads! (Why?)
