300 Ham'r

I just discovered the 300 Ham'r today while doing some research for my next AR build.

Apparently Wilson Combat developed it to be closer to 308 ballistics in an AR-15 size gun (because we've never heard that one before). Kind of like the 30 Remington AR, but not.

According to their advertising, the Ham'r has 300fps and 400ft-lbs of energy over the 300BLK with 110-135gr bullets, while still using a 5.56 case.

Honestly, my curiosity is piqued, but not quite enough to buy one at this point. Though Starline does make brass, and Lee and RCBS make dies, so there is potential. I'll definitely keep an eye on it, and see if maybe it gets to be worth it.

Shifting prepping gears with the seasons

Labor day is here, and in a few weeks the fall equinox will arrive on September 22.

As the seasons change, so should our prepping goals. Here on the farm the deer hunting stands are being fixed, and I may plant a fall / winter garden.

Since July fishing has eased up under the brutal summer temperatures. As the cool fall weather arrives, hopefully the fishing will pick back up.

It will not be long and the cold fronts will arrive and the dead of winter will set in. Predictions say we may be in for a cold 2018 - 2019 winter, but time will tell.

I may plant some

• Fall beans / peas
• Rutabagas
• Turnip greens

Undecided on winter squash, such as acorn squash.

My job has me working 10 hour days, and I have not checked on the garden in a week. The okra has probably grown to long to harvest. I might make some homemade hot sauce this week with some of the jalapeno peppers.

The 2018 spring garden started with a rough start, but things went well after the rain stopped.

I have not harvested a deer in years. I may take one here on the farm this year, or maybe go out to the public hunting lands on the Angelina River here hear Jasper, Texas.

Not sure if I will run any trotlines this fall. Just spending a day on the river fishing is usually enough for me.

There are some remote areas deep in the sloughs I may go hunting at.

As summer fades away I am looking forward to the cool weather of fall and winter.

I have several displays like this, I just don't have pictures right now.

This one is currently displaying an M3, an M4, an M5A1, an M6 and an M7 bayonet. In the pice it is an M4, M5A1, M6, M7 and M9.

I have other bayonets displayed in the same manner. It utilizes a rare earth magnet to hold the blades in place and I have never had any fall off of the display.

The rest of my knives (mostly bayonets, my interests) are being stored in a sundry of cardboard and plastic boxes soon to be replaced with ammo box style, stackable wooden boxes..

Where to buy silver online?

Apologies if this as already been answered, I did a quick scroll and didn't see anything recent but who knows what I might have missed.

What reputable online sellers are people buying silver from? Who represents the best deal (read, charges lowest premium) right now?

Ideally I'm looking to use PayPal for payment (I know I'll pay a premium for this, but I have a semi-reliable income stream through PayPal, and I like the buyer protection).

I'm really looking to buy 1oz rounds at the moment, either 20 at a time, or if the price breaks are right, possibly waiting to do 100 at a time. Eventually I might switch over to 10oz bars.

Before anyone mentions it, I do have a local shop, but their premium on 20 rounds is a bit high, and the next price break is at an absurd 1000 rounds. I've bought and sold with them in the past, but they have no serious competition in the area, and at a cursory glance, it appears that their premium is costing me at least 2% over what I could buy for from JM bullioun after all costs.

So any suggestions where I should be looking?

I remember watching on a black and white portable TV as Armstrong stepped on the moon for the first time. I believe it really did transcend all borders, it was a man who walked on the moon. The whole world was watching.

Having said that we were in a race to the moon with the USSR and we won. Americans risked their lives and spent their treasure to get there. People like Ryan Gosling were't alive when we landed on the moon. They don't know about the national pride it created. In fact he's Canadian so maybe that explains why the American flag on the moon is left out of his movie. (In an effort to give credit where credit is due the Canadians did build the Shuttle arm).

I'm a fan of SPAM and I stock every flavor of it. Hormel came out with the Portuguese Sausage flavor in 2015 but I've never seen it in any stores in my area. Maybe they only sell it in Hawaii. I ordered 5 cans from SPAM.com and tried it for the first time this morning. The first thing that I noticed was that there was very little of the mystery jelly that usually coats the meat. And the color was a noticeably different than the normal Spam pink. The flavor was subtle and I've never had Portuguese sausage so I can't tell you if the flavor is authentic or not. The bottom line is that it tasted good. If you like SPAM and want to enjoy a variety of it like I do, you should add the Portuguese Sausage flavor to your preps if you can get your hands on it.

LDS Powdered Milk

I guess you could call this somewhat of a review for this product. I know this has been talked about here before, but his it just my personal experience with this milk.

I bought a box of the LDS powered milk. The box comes with 12 - 28 ounce packages in it. The packages appear to be mylar with an O2 absorber in them. The box is $60.00. Each package in the box makes about 1.8 gallons of milk. There are around 29 servings per package and a serving is 1 cup (8 ounces) and it takes 3 tablespoons of milk powder per serving. That breaks down to around $2.78 per gallon, which is not a bad price for milk. The LDS site says the product is good for 20 years when stored properly (cool and dry).

Yesterday I made up a quart of the milk. That is ¾ cup of milk powder per quart of water. I used a mixer to mix it up good. I put it in the refrigerator and left it overnight. I tried some of it today and it was not bad at all. It was not just like store bought milk, but not bad. I then put ¼ teaspoon of pure vanilla extract in it and that made it a lot better. I put some in my oatmeal and poured some in a glass. It was good in the oatmeal and it was good drinking it right out of the glass. I would drink it straight like it is with some cookies or cake.

I will be buying some more of this milk. It tastes a lot better than other powdered box milk I have tried and did not like. I would suggest if you are going to buy some of this powdered milk to also stock up on pure vanilla extract (not the imitation vanilla extract). Pure vanilla extract lasts almost for ever when stored properly. I hope this was useful for any of you out there thinking about buying some of this and trying it.

Hi all,

I've been here for a while, but I'm reintroducing myself. I got married, and did get some preps started before marriage, and luckily got my wife to go to the range with me, which is a good start.

As for my survivalist leanings, I would tend towards thinking we're heading for an EMP/economic collapse.

I think what I should be doing to get ready for such would be:

-buy land, at least 10 acres, at least 10 miles from the interstate, and at least 50+ miles from any large city (500,000+ people) and build a house with rain catchment system, cistern, septic tank, solar panels, whole-house water filter with replacement filters; it should be able to hold at least me and my wife at the bare minimum; my family (9 more people) better, my wife's family (6 people) better still; my best friend (6 people) and his wife/kids even better, or his full family (another 7). Realistically, 11 people to 17 might be the max we can put in one house, given the limits of septic and food.
-get a pre-computer vehicle, automatic transmission, preferably diesel; something like a military surplus vehicle or Ford Bronco or something.
-get a five-year storable food supply, non-GMO for at least 4 people.
-get survival seeds (done); practice growing stuff so I don't mess up as much (doing it now)
-get library built up of survival techniques
-get board games, card games, books, etc, for entertainment in case of EMP
-get a medical kit (done - ILBE milspec kit bought);
-train in emergency medical techniques
-possibly build a greenhouse with PVC and semi-clear plastic for winter growing; get soil
-do composting (done)
-get chickens, possibly rabbits, maybe goats
-get some kind of communication devices (Baofeng? Yaesu?); I have 1 Baofeng but can't find it. Probably need to get HAM license and base station.
-get gold/silver (1.3 oz / 147 oz) and copper (30 oz) to protect wealth
-stock ammo (working on it)
-have defensive weapons (2 AR, a Glock 23/27, 10/22, 12-gauge) and practice with them
-go-bag with tent/sleeping back; I have an ILBE 2 with the sleep system and two-man tent

I am open to suggestions for a good G.O.O.D. bag for the car and for myself in case of any EMP (may be different things). Is this a good start for what to do, or is there anything I've overlooked?

I would think the best thing would be to stock my house on the land, and have just enough to get to it here in town.

Dometic electric coolers/fridge/freezer

Just got a Dometic compressor type electric cooler and just checking it out. Seems extremely practical and efficient, even as a little freezer. My BOL is about 2.5 to 3.5 hours away which I go to quite often to work on and recreate. I have two, essentially ‘dorm’ sized fridges. One always on and one ready but good for food storage anyhow. Neither freezer section is worth a damn.

Other than the obvious benefit of water/thaw free cooling when on the road I think the real benefit of these little efficient Dometic type fridges/freezers is the ability to rather efficiently and quickly make ice. Now the low power consumption and smaller (and ostensibly quicker to freeze) cooler /freezer which runs great on battery eith minimal solar power, as well as 110v, can be used to make quite a bit of ice for conventional coolers, creating all sorts of better low and no power scenarios.....the DC amp load is very low considering how easy freezing cold it will get down to. Relatively easy ice!!

My advice is to go someplace you can try one on. Packs can be like shoes; what fits me well may fit you horrible. And don’t go too cheap or you’ll just be buying another pack sooner than you want. In short, buy a quality trusted brand and walk around the store with it on for a bit (preferably with something in it). Most stores will let you do this if they have a decent sales staff who understands why you’re doing it, because they would do the same.

I am recently separated and have a 2002 Chrysler minivan with a 3.8 220,000 miles salvage title got hit in the back hatch and bumper damaged. Paint peeling like new tires radiator lower hose area leaking very little. She has a 2001 Dodge durango 4.7 motor 4x4 clean title with about 197,000 miles back bumper bent(she somehow backed into a tree(?)). Has rust on back doors area not the doors them selfs. Needs tires and a alignment and new shocks for the rear hatch and the driver seat does not work but is where i need it and leaks a little atf not much. I am about 10 or so mins 1 way to work. She wants the van bc of the mpg but did not want it bc a drunk ran into the back when she was driving and did not/does not feel safe. I asked her before if i could buy it at tax time and no response till she said trade. I like the Durango but the mpg bothers me some. Both seem to run good and no problems. I want the Durango and like the looks and it is a 4x4 so i can get out and work if work is open thanks

The evening was not that cold, and I was wearing the jacket for a reason.. my girlfriend was happy that I just returned safely from my 2nd tour as a Combat Marine in Afghanistan .. She had just bought me that Kimber Custom Model 1911 .45 ACP pistol for my birthday, and we had picked up a shoulder holster for it that very evening. Obviously you agree that it is a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head ... isn't it?!

I know it probably wasn't fun walking back to wherever you'd come from with krap in your pants. I'm sure it was even worse walking bare-footed since I made you leave your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me. (That prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us again).

After I called your mother or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, I explained the entire episode of what you'd done. Then I went and filled up my gas tank as well as those of four other people in the gas station, -- on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 153 gallons and was extremely grateful!

I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vinnie Van Go Go's, along with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!]

I then threw your wallet into the big pink "pimp mobile" that was parked at the curb ..... after I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver's side of the car.

Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Trump as my possible target.

The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.).

In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you .. but I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider, the career path you've chosen to pursue in life.. Remember, next time you might not be so lucky. Have a good day!

Bruce Ohr Testifies

I've been watching the coverage of Bruce Ohr's testimony the last couple of days. Of course it was behind doors, but what is coming out is interesting. To sum it up, it sounds like he contradicted a lot of others testimony and pretty much threw everyone under the bus. It was also reported this morning that it's looking like Congress is going to call back the entire cast of characters to testify again. Should be fun to watch.

One other thing that was reported was a response to one of Gowdy's questions. Ohr said that he knew the dossier was junk and never thought it would be used in any investigation. He also said he's never seen any investigation that remotely resembles this one, meaning that it appears to him to improper..

Red dots tints the world dark?

One thing I never see mentioned about holo red dot sights (nor can ever find info on when I specifically search for it) is that they seem to make the world a lot darker, like sunglasses.

I guess this makes sense because of how they work (projecting onto tinted lense), but I'm surprised it's not more often mentioned as a drawback, because especially in the evenings when it's dark it can just really make it harder to see what you're shooting at.

Sometimes I walk through the forest at nighttime without night vision just for fun, it's interesting how the eyes can adjust to see the environment even when really dark. If I ever had to do that with a holo sight I would imagine I would be frustrated as hell as even the slightest tint would turn the subtle moon light into blackness.

granted I only have cheap holos (around 40 us dollars each), but that's all I can afford for now, I guess the real deal ones have better glass technology that makes the tint less noticeable?

yeah, chinese have been using this tech for a while, setting up a gantry that can move itself on wheels, and programming the distance traveled per rotating, linking the motors up to a controller to guide them on the ground, its not that hard

honestly though.. with that many people present, i dont think itd have taken much longer for them to build the concrete walls out of cinder blocks and cement mortar, or some pre-made concrete forms you could connect together, and then simply fill up with concrete

I'm still liking this trend to body cameras. Most of these cases with cameras in use tend to exonerate cops doing a hard job. And they catch the rare time when a cop crosses the line.

People griped when football went over to instant replay ages ago, but as time went by the video ended up being what the game needed to keep it honest.

And just like game film helped to upgrade tactical deficiencies in football, so too will body cam film show tactical deficiencies in high stress police situations.

IFAK items to add to Adventure Medical Kit .5, what shears, other?

I’m putting together a IFAK for my family and me for day hikes in Colorado. I’m an Eagle Scout ( many years ago) with hiking and first aid training (through Scouts). After some research, I think I’ll start with the AMK 0.5 kit and add a RAT tourniquet and some shears. Maybe a few more butterfly closures. I already pack a headlamp and survival blanket.

Can you recommend any shears? The Madison brand seems to get the best reviews but they look a little big.

What other items should I add?

Windows 7 New Build Question.

I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit on a new system that will be booting to an NVMe M2 drive. NVMe M2 drives were never created when Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit was created. Please don’t tell me to use Windows 8, 8.1 or 10, I don’t want a Virus or spyware on my system, Windows 7 is bad enough. So I need to Boot from a USB drive, this requires me to put the Windows Image on the USB drive, done. And then the driver for the NVMe M2 drive, done. Then the driver for the USB for the Motherboard, done.

Here is the problem, I need to figure out how to get them into the image file so when I boot it work.

Has anyone here done that? Can anyone Help? If So IM Me please.

I have used rainx a few times. It seems ok but I wanted to see what you all may use. I found that the flip up covers work great but not practical on all scopes(A.O). It looks like a damp fall may be on the way so I was just thinking ahead.

If you aren't dangerous or a flight risk, then there's no reason for bail.

Mosin Nagant Issues

Hello everyone,

Ive been having trouble with my Mosin. I had disassembled the bolt for a mineral spirit bath (had a friend coming over that wasn't used to sticky bolts, needed it anyways) and ever since I put it back together, when I try to reset the firing pin, the bolt body slides off of the rail. I can manually cock it and it fires, but obviously a problem that needs to get fixed. Any ideas what to do?

I support it, just make sure you do research on who is doing it.

My mother was suffering with migraines so bad, that she would have seizures. For years my father tried to get her to go to an acupuncturist... she refused, thinking it was quack science. After a series of really bad seizures, she finally gave up and agreed to give it a try. The first time she went, they told her it would last about a month and she would need to come back... it did. The second visit, they told her the same thing... again, 1 month was correct and they came back. The third visit, they said they would return after 3 months... and 3 months later they did. I can't remember how many visit, but I think around the 5th or 6th visit, he told her that she wouldn't be needing him anymore and that he wished her all the happiness life has to offer... and to my knowledge, she's never had a migraine since. When she realized that she went all those years in pain with our "quack" doctors and dismissed eastern medicine, she cried...

My opinion, is to go for it. I think it could help and even if not, it's no worse than what he's getting now.

It has come to my attention that both ATT and Verizon have a program:

When there's a large demand on cell towers and we are "registered" our communications will be given priority.

Example: if I were to go crazy and go to a football game is be one of the few able to use my phone.

We are going to have to have them out to a FD meeting and listen to the spiel, and since we are a volunteer FD we will be on the personal sign up option. (There's a similar program for if the FD provides the phone.)
From the look I got its cheaper than even the First Responder discount.
(Added bonus)
(I found out the 1st Responder (not needing department ok) discount is more than the military discount BTW... 25% of the base amount (really about 10% of the monthly bill)

No obligation on the part of the FD, just an officer saying it's OK for us to sign up.

I can see both professional and prepping (personal) advantages to this, and it's not like any One who's a first responder hasn't had the background checks \is "registered" with .gov.

I really screwed this up. I put vinyl baseboard around the fellowship hall of our church. When I went around the corners (outside) I cut the baseboard flush with the edge of the wall and then started a new run down the other side of the wall. It looks like junk. I should have somehow trimmed it someway so the baseboard would make sharp 90 degree corners.
How do I fix this? Do they make edge trim for screw-ups like this? Thanks for any help.
