Baofeng = useless in emergency

During the recent BLM invasion in Jupiter Farms, many of the residents had the Baofeng UV5r radios. Some with extended antennas. I had mine charged up and ready to go.

We met and selected a frequency. Tried them out and we were able to communicate when next to each other.

However, as soon as we split up and started driving around, the radios went silent/remained silent and were 100% useless. The range is so short and the signal is blocked by houses/trees/whatever, that they did not even work 1 block away.

They were so bad and so useless, I can't conceive of an actual use for these things.

There are other options for communication that actually work. I strongly suggest that if you see a need for radio for 2 way communication, purchase something worthwhile.
