Cancel Culture - Your Thoughts?

It has been termed "Cancel Culture" by those who oppose it. Removing statues of our founding fathers, Confederate leaders/generals, Christopher Columbus, and the like. Revising history books for our children's schooling is also on the cancel culture's agenda so that all can grow up learning what a terrible nation the United States has always been.

In the south, this is seen by many (mostly white people I would imagine) as an attack on the history of the region and a dishonoring of ancestors who served in the CSA army in the fight against the north. What minorities see as removing racist bigots, the great grandchildren of CSA soldiers view as the destruction of war memorials and the politically correct purging of their own heritage.

Now my daughter (who lives in Lubbock, Texas) has informed me that Lubbock was named after Thomas Saltus Lubbock a former Texas Ranger and a Colonel in the Confederate Army. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, several suggested alternative names have been suggested: Hub City, Dirt City, Texas Techville, United Supermarket Area, Margarittaville, Dogtown, Brown Acres, Hollydelphia (because Buddy Holly was from Lubbock). I suggested "Muddy Rain City" because it can and does actually rain mud there from time-to-time.

So what are your thoughts about the Cancel Culture? Is it a good thing or another overreach by the left?

Let's block ads! (Why?)
