Vacuum cleaners?

What brands/models of vacuum cleaners does everyone like? I'm getting tired of cheap vacuums that fail after a couple years and it is more expensive to fix than to buy another unit.

We have a Hoover WindTunnel Air Pro upright ($230 MSRP...we paid less) for the past 5 years that I have not loved, and now has an intermittent beater bar issue. I tried to fix it and can't find the problem. Rather than pay someone to repair, I'm looking for other options. I will probably go with a bagless canister vacuum this time. Just wondering what people like and have found to last.
