Amazon's Web Services include servers, data storage, and more. They power a ton of different web sites and services. This is no different than if a Microsoft or other rack storage service had a problem.

It's a single point of failure that can take down a shocking number of products. More and more, companies go to Cloud services to save a lot of $$$ in setting up their own data centers. And this is one of the potential consequences.
