Burrito survival bars

BURRITO SURVIVAL BARS

LTS type lifeboat ration bars usually taste like old saltine crackers. So, I have been trying to come up with better tasting nourishing simple ration bar recipe for hiking, backpacking & as open package & eat survival food, if need be.

40% fat free chunky refried beans, 40% cooked spicy Spanish rice, 20% lean crock pot cooked pork finely diced/shredded, all well mixed in a bowl.

Spread about 5/8ths in thick in a large dark corningware casserole dish that was 1st lightly oiled / floured.

Spread smoothly in a casserole dish

Baked @ 325F for around 50 minutes.

Cut into brownie sized bars

I ate one while still warm. Very tasty (if you like Burritos?).
Still somewhat moist in the middle, so into the dehydrator until bone dry.
Will then package in Mylar, with 02A’s, heat seal & store.

Given the ingredients, these “may” store for several years.
I enjoy tinkering in the kitchen, so why not.
