Western Montana

I'm ready to get out of Colorado (Denver area) after living here 30 years. Colorado a blue state, Denver and other cities are sanctuary cities, restrictive gun laws, and overrun with illegals (they give them driver's licenses here so they can get to their illegal jobs). Crime ticking up. Two million plus on the Front Range now, gridlock and congestion inspite of $7 billion mass transit system (rail cars built in Korea) which I'm paying for but will never use.

Semi-retired with two small businesses to reestablish. Thinking of western Montana. No sales tax in Montana. Here in CO paying up to 9% sales tax most places - it adds up although the politicians hope you won't notice.

Just me and the dog so I don't need much in the way of digs, definitely been downsizing since the recession. Looking to rent at first then eventually build small off grid house/cabin.

Any thoughts on western Montana? Good places to start out? Any other input welcome, especially from anyone already in the area. TIA
