Boots are situational, as match said. Some are suited for certain terrain, but not others. Jungle boots weren't designed to last, they were designed to let feet breathe and drain water in a hot wet area. They'd be silly to wear in hard rocky areas. Jump boots are different from cowboy boots, which are different from packers, which are different from hikers, which are different from snake boots, or engineer boots....point is, you can't just say "boots suck", you have to be specific. May dad was Forest service, he wore White's packers almost every day of his adult life, he preferred them to tennis shoes. Wore their Snow Pacs when it got deep, and had some White's dress packers for church, too.
Boots are different than shoes, they fit differently, wear differently, and often require some break-in to be really comfortable. If you have worn court shoes or Sketchers all your life, they take some getting used to. But once you have the right ones, and DO get used to them, and know how to use them and wear them and take care of them and your feet, they are the answer.
