ACLU, ABA on Judge Kavanaugh

ABA committee to evaluate Trump’s Supreme Court pick Kavanaugh

Quote:

The standing committee gave Kavanaugh a well-qualified rating by a substantial majority when he was nominated to the D.C. Circuit in 2003 and in 2005, then rated him as qualified in a new review in 2006. That year, a substantial committee majority gave Kavanaugh a qualified rating, while a minority gave him a well-qualified rating.
ABA will conduct a determination of Kavanaugh's rating for SCOTUS. Unknown when this will occur.

ACLU Statement on Nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to Supreme Court

Quote:

Brett Kavanaugh may bring the requisite experience, but given Donald Trump’s promise to overturn..., the decision that recognized the right to ..., and efforts to reverse progress on civil rights and civil liberties, that’s not enough. It’s incumbent on Congress to determine whether Kavanaugh's legal views are compatible with the powerful role he will play for generations.
ACLU may or may not oppose or support presidential nominees, though it does seem to make vicarious predeterminations upon nominees, based upon little more than perceived statements by Donald Trump.
