Baking soda for tooth paste.

I recently had a bad bout with thrush after having to be on some potent antibiotics for a Brown recluse bite.

Since I am finally able to brush my teeth again I am trying baking soda instead of commercial toothpastes. I am having trouble finding a way to get it on the brush without getting all of it wet. Any ideas? Also, for anyone who uses it, how well does it work and do you like it better than regular toothpaste.
