Seems that with the Venezuela failed state that piracy has become a thing again in that part of the world.
Venezuela stopped patrolling because they can't afford to, their people are broke and starving. None of the small island nations can afford more than a small cutter or two. Guyana and Suriname are perpetual 3rd World nations with almost no sea enforcement. Only Colombia is able to work on the problem and they are rather west of the problem areas.
Take your boat out to the West Indies and you might find yourself being chased by a speed boat with a bunch of guys toting AK's. It's easier just to throw you overboard into the ocean than figure out what to do with you. Lot of folks and their boats have been disappearing.
On the other hand. If you have a nice boat and some buddies good with AR's then you can go hunt pirates with impunity. With no one enforcing the law you can go have a vigilante vacation.
