Remembering polio--one of the last polio victims--living in an Iron Lung

I'm 63, and just barely remember a disease that struck fear into thousands of parents. My mom had a name for it: it was the scary-sounding word "polio".

Inspiring video of a man who caught the disease at the age of 6.

Permanently and completely paralyzed from the neck down. Yet he became a prominent and successful lawyer.

Until Jonas Salk discovered the cause and a vaccine for polio in 1955, there was no prevention. Doctors were helpless.

Watching this video today, and listening to this man's story, I shake my head in disbelief of parents who refuse to get their children vaccinated. (Not only for polio, but for all the other childhood diseases out there.)

Let's block ads! (Why?)
