Cops say armed robbers are using expensive Canada Goose coats to target victims

While a Canada Goose coat might keep Chicago residents warm during the long, cold days of winter, it won’t necessarily keep them safe.

NBC Chicago reports that armed robbers are using the iconic jackets with their distinct patches and fur-lined hoods to target victims. According to police, since Tuesday, six Canada Goose jackets have been stolen right off the victims’ bodies.

The most recent robbery occurred just as the school day was starting at Lasalle II Magnet School. The victim told NBC that he believed the Audi that drove past him held a parent who was running late to drop their child off. Instead, a person showed him a gun and demanded his coat.

The stolen Audi, which is believed to have been used in all of the robberies, was discovered in an abandoned alley on Thursday.

A community alert was issued on Wednesday by police for three of the robberies, but some residents are now worried about wearing their items in public.

“It’s super-unfortunate,” Janine Wilkin said. “I feel safe most of the time, but you keep hearing stories like this, so I feel like I’ll be more cautious.”

Jen Kripas, however, isn’t concerned. “We have really good police officers,” she told the outlet. “I trust that they’ll get them.”

WGN9 reports that the suspects were described as three African-American males between the ages of 18 and 26. They were wearing dark hoodies and ski masks. Anyone with information is asked to call the police.
