Mylar is conductive. Maybe some of the juice leaked out and shorted the system. Not sure they are rated for vacuum duty.

AA and AAA Buy Eneloops and a good charger that can run on 12 V DC. D's I bought Tenergy and I have AA and AAA adapters. I have a NiteCore I4 with the optional cigarette lighter cord. Will do 18650 batteries also. Plus I have two 100 W 12 V solar panels with 2 different charge controllers.

Eneloops are a great deal even if they are only half as good as they say.

I keep mine in a Tupperware type container. I make sure they can't turn around and connect up in a short circuit type arrangement like loose in a bowl.
