There is plenty of expert testimony in court about reaction times, body's turning as your shooting (which is what it looks like to me) etc.

The guy was assaulting him with a deadly weapon, had him in a compromised position where he couldn't get away and the mob was telling him they were going to kill him.

Reasonable man defense all the way.
