My daughter bought a house last year in Colorado. She started having problems with little worms on the ceiling of her son’s bedroom in the basement. An exterminator said they were carpet beetles, and that in one house they had to tear the cupboards off the wall, and found that mice had stored dog food in the wall.
My daughter cut an 8 foot long section of the sheetrock on the ceiling between two joists. Dog food from the previous owner fell out. She weight the dog food that fell out, and it came to 114.8 lbs of dog food. She hasn’t tried cutting between the other joists yet.
It appears that these were Survivalist Mice preparing for the Apocalypse.
