Utah Polygamists ...

... or "Polygs" for short. I suppose this could have been posted in the religious section but I'm not focusing on the actual religion of these folks. There are two primary versions of Mormons in my area. The LDS (Latter Day Saints) church and the FLDS (Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints) church. Although they aren't at war with each other they have little to do with each other in the social sense. The LDS is the "official" Mormon church and is much larger than the FLDS is.

Anyway, the above was just a tiny bit of history that I've learned since moving here.

The point of this thread is to discuss the "Polygs" and their work ethic. I'm not a Mormon but I'd much rather live around this group than the Crips or the Bloods or the Hell's Angels. They may dress funny but they're very hard and industrious workers who don't commit violent crimes and who pretty much keep to themselves. They also stay under the government radar to the best of their ability. They don't clutter the countryside with special church buildings but, rather, they meet in homes or barns, etc. They've also developed a pretty good trading system. They have little stores that aren't on "the books" where they sell to or trade with others of their own community. And they DO have money. It's not uncommon to see them driving large, newer model F250 Diesel trucks with all the bells and whistles.

They pretty much hire other Polygs and support each other. Very old fashioned in many ways.

Anyway, I like the way they've been able to stick to their own standards without answering to "the authorities" (in many ways).

Typical attire of the "Polygs" in my area:

The women wear old fashioned dresses, hide their ankles, and grow their hair long (but keep it in a bun or french braid). The males wear blue jeans and long-sleeved shirts.
