Long distance shooters rifle scope mounting help?

I think it's a bad idea to have the part of the scope that holds the glass and maybe the reticule touching any part of the gun. Direct energy transfer if it's touching and your scopes body is likely being bent. Temperature changes might more easy change your zero.

If it where my rifle, I would probably remove the rifle scope and file or sand down the rail at that point until there was maybe .020"+ of clearance between the scope and rail. Then repaint the rail with some matching model paint.
