Everything sounds great, almost too good to be true, but not quite.
Still, I am having trouble determining if this could be some sort of scam or is legitimate.
There was no interview. I simply sent them my resume and photocopies of my degrees, and a week later, they sent me an offer. I signed the non-binding offer accepting the position.
Now they put me in touch with an immigration specialist, who is in the UK. He sent me immigration forms to fill out which of course asks a lot of identifying info. such as parents, names, birthdates, etc. but doesn't ask for my SS number.
They told me I will have to pay the fee for the Visa, then once granted, the company will reimburse me. Looks like it will be around $3000. (1000 pounds of this is a health care tax, but they say they will provide me health insurance, so not sure if there is a waiver. But they can't send the money until the visa is approved per UK law.
My concerns are that this could either be an identity scam or just a way to get a few thousand dollars and I have no way to independantly verify anything. There is no British consul office in Houston that I can determine. Maybe I can make payment directly to the UK immigration service and maybe that is the plan. I am just getting started looking at this and of course I get some bug attacking me the last couple days as well.
Also, they will need a copy of my bank routing info, to deposit an initial payment as moving allowance.
Maybe I am just being overly cautious. Has anyone gone through this process before and any words of advice?
I have never gone through an immigration process before. They will provide an apartment and car. probably for a 7 year duration.
Thank you.
