In 2009 I was lucky enough to end up in a military unit that had G-19s. I was amazed at how natural and easy they were to shoot compared to M-9's, which required a lot of additional training to deal with their various quirks; long first shot pull, trying to rack the slide without slipping on the safety, malfunctioning for no reason, etc.
In the years since, I've wanted a Glock 19 for everyday carry. But it was so basic and obvious that I kept pushing it to the back of the line. I needed maximum concealment with minimum clothing so I got a Shield. I needed a sweet 1911 for reasons that need no explanation.
Today I finally bought a G-19. It's the gun I'll carry for the rest of my life (depending on circumstances, like bear protection). I bought it on the Blue Label program for the price of a few nights at a bar, shot it, and spent a couple of hours giving it the full cleaning for a new gun.
Glocks are boringly reliable. Especially because I don't intend to improve anything on the gun but the sights. No mods, no malfunctions, nothing really worth talking about. I'm just happy that I live in the world of modern 9mm ammunition and polymer guns.
Whether you have an XD, M&P, Glock, or some other more horrendously expensive European brand, we are lucky to have such good guns. Firearms that don't need extensive gunsmithing to function correctly. I used to practice malfunctions drills because they were a very likely possibility. Now I practice them because putting holes in paper gets boring.
There's no real point to this post, because it's basically the equivalent of saying "Yay I bought a Ford F-150!" So what? Everyone else has too. The last gun I bought was a Colt 1911 that cost 3 times the price and was much more interesting to talk about. At the end of the day though, that Colt is going to sit in a box and the Glock is going to be with me. That's the point.
