Making the nut

Most of you folks are like myself, held down a day job to finance your habits, like eating, having a roof over your head, kids and spouse in clothing, that sort of thing.
I was just wondering what all ya'all (plural form) do or did for a living.

I had to retire because my body started going south in 2013. For about thirty years before that I was a marine electrician. That has nothing at all to do with the USMC, it's an electrician that works on ships.
My first day I was given some wire markers and set down in front of an announcing system amplifier in the attack center of a fast attack submarine (637 class). I was lost, big time. Came to me as time went on though. Over the years I worked on two fast attack subs, an SSGN - Ohio, the USS Long Beach, 5 conventionally powered aircraft carriers, and 6 nuke carriers. Also got to work on a Liberty ship the Navy was going to use as a temporary living barge, A TAKE - new class of supply ship manned with a split civilian and Navy crew. When the Navy work wasn't available I worked in Private yards. One time or another I worked on cruise ships, State ferries, fishing boats, tankers, oil research ships, and lots of factory fishing boats. Helped build 3 big Washington State Ferries as well. Made a couple nickels to rub together and a pathetic retirement. But I wouldn't have traded it for a thing. Well maybe...

Let's block ads! (Why?)
