Here is my situation and my concern with it. I am around 30 years old with around 125k sitting in my bank and around 50k in a typical corporate matched 401k. No debt and little credit. I am a programmer so I assume I will always have a well paying job prior to a collapse.
I learned about the bail in law (or laws?), which has me spooked about my money sitting in the bank. Derivatives trading has me worried that even the big banks might collapse and the FDIC will not be able to bail them out this time since they bailed out banks in 2008. With the debt soaring and the political situation around the world, I am also worried about the dollar collapsing.
I am currently living with my dad without a home of my own. I am not sure about what I want to do with my career or where I want to live so I do not think real estate is a good option for the immediate future. I feel that it is important to move my money quickly to more secure assets or ones that will do well in a bank or dollar collapse situation.
My first inclination is to buy junk silver as, from what I understand, it gives you the most silver for your buck and is less likely to be counterfeited. But it seems to be a bit much to buy 125k of junk silver and hide it in a safe in my house somewhere. Not to mention the lack of diversification. Even then, from what I understand, the government can still confiscate it and I have to report it.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
