Silnylon water saturation issue

So, I just got back from 5 days at Garden of The Gods in Southern IL.

I had some water seepage problems with the SilNylon ripstop rainfly.

I know it's been years since I last waterproofed it. So I understand the first thought that I am way over do (last done in August 2009). However, the really weird part, is that the water still beads on the rainfly.

When I did the water proofing, it was right after a really bad experience in torrential rains. I had used (in 2009) a modern ecofreindly rain proofing product pushed onto me by REI. Yeah...that lasted halfway through the first big storm...and washed off.

Side note : "Eco Freindly = "Garbage". It's no more real than a "Vegan Pulled Pork Sandwich"

So, after this disaster, I re-coated the rainfly with good old fashioned spray on silicone waterproofing. I layed it on heavy, thick, and on both sides of the fly. I used 3 full cans in total.

Last year (2016 - 7 years later), I encountered heavy storms on a 4 day weekend trip to my local favorite Starved Rock State Park. The water STILL just rolled off the fly like a freshly waxed car. Not a single drop leaked.

Now, in last weeks trip, even though the water still beads like that, water is soaking through the material and leaking into the tent.

Maybe it's just time to recoat the rain fly. However, the fact that the water still beads is really throwing me. Outside of that the rainfly is acting like it's completely uncoated.

Anyone ever experience this before?

Thoughts?
