Why does this spot on the map look this way?

If someone could take a minute, I'd appreciate it if you could look at something on a map and tell me what you think it is.

Please go to the Channel 26 Fox news Houston's weather page, here

Scroll down the page about halfway to the live radar.

Zoom in on Houston. Then look north of Houston until you see 'Cut and Shoot'. You may need to zoom in a time or two for the words to show up.

Then look at the brown area just south east of Cut and Shoot. It has geometric borders and is easy to spot. It lies along FM 2090 on the map. It appears to be 'empty'.

Then zoom in all the way and see how it turns from brown to odd looking, irregular rows and swathes of green.

What would make that area look like that? As far as I know, it is not a military area, nor is it a landfill or anything else. When you drive by, all you see is woods. There is nothing in the area to indicate what it is. I wonder if it is clear-cut behind the forest you can see from the road.

Any ideas? It's been there for years and years like that on maps, and I've always wondered why.

FWIW, the satellite map is several years old. I can tell because there are structures that have been built in the last four or five years that are not on that map.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
