Radiation detectors---vintage vs. modern--some questions

6 years ago I bought an assortment of vintage 1960's CD Geiger counters and dosimeters. Basically the setup shown in the picture below (the picture isn't one of my set, but shows the things I do have):

When I received them, I sent them to a company that checked the calibration. About a year ago, I had them calibration checked again.

However---my question is this: how good are these older "vintage" devices, as compared to modern equipment?

Or should I be purchasing a "modern" device? Are they better, more accurate?

Also--can anyone advise on the best way on how to learn to use these devices effectively? Thanks for any help!

Edit: I notice that the modern detectors use sieverts, instead of rads. Is this a reason to get a modern detector?

Let's block ads! (Why?)
