What is with Save the Date for weddings?

Save the date is simply the new way of saying “hey, there’s something important you should be at, you’re invited, and expected to come, it’s traditional to show up and support your friends and family, and you’d be an ass to blow it off....but we don’t want to pressure you, or disrespect your right to flake out on us, and no one these days seems to “plan” anything beyond the next ten minutes, so you know, if you can, and if you want, and if you have nothing important planned yet, could you please pencil this event in, unless you get some hot tip on a good day of fishing or something important to take care of, in which case...um, yeah, have fun.”

People don’t really plan things anymore. We have a calendar in our pocket that will remind us of whatever we want...but most people still don’t bother, beyond their own things. You can’t get them to commit to anything, it seems, they ALWAYS have to leave wiggle room just in case they don’t feel like it, or “something” comes up, that they COULD have said no, I already have a thing planned, how about the next week...but they don’t.

Society sucks more all the time.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
