anybody have parents or grandparents that lived thru the depression?

not sure if this is the correct section but id like to hear storys they told you of living thru the depression.

my maternal gparents on my moms side were young adults during the depression and had many stories about what they had to do to make do during this hard time.

they lived on a farm that was doing well before the depression, they survived and continued to do well after, even after having their land taken by the us government. they were first generation germans born in the us previous to ww2.

my great gpa had established a farm in Wisconsin before the war.actually before ww1 as he came here in 1909.

I remember my gpa talking about the city folk and being sad for them cuz they had little to eat and no way to get anything to eat.

he said after milking at 430 am they all came in for a huge bfast of bacon, ham, eggs and any garden stuff available.

then they would harness the horses and either go to the fields to work or if it was winter, they would take axes and saws and go to the woods for fire wood.

I asked him about hunting and he would say" shoot boy there was nothing to hunt".

lunch was in the woods or field and was leftovers from bfast.no way was they wasteing horse flesh going back to the house.

in the evening they put the horses away and milked again and then when everything was cleaned went for supper in the main house.

he said they didn't waste much coal oil cuz by dark you were ready to sleep.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
