Some years ago, I bought a can roller shelf unit to store a mix of dried storage foods, and cans from the local cannery. It was working well, but apparently one of the cans (plums) had a fault in it. I had read about not using bulging cans, but had not realised that the pressure inside can actually build up enough that the can will burst. Which leaves you with a pressurised can spraying its contents out onto everything nearby.
This is the point at whch the downside of the shelving unit became apparent - it is an open unit, so the spray from the can reached the rows above, and then proceeded to drip onto everything below. The cleanup has been horrendous.
I would recommend anyone with open shelving like this to cover shelves so that any spills etc. are contained to a small area. If you have a roller unit like mine, you might have to get creative and do something like tape black plastic underneath the rows.
