Muscadine / Possum Grapes

The muscadine / possum grapes are doing good here on the farm. The creek banks have grapes all over them, and there are several areas around the farm which are loaded with muscadine / possum grapes.

I have heard of people making muscadine wine, or muscadine jelly, but that seems like a lot of work. Typically, I just eat them off the vine.

One of the previous land owners had pipes drove in the ground and stainless steel wire run between them for the muscadine vines to run on. The pipes have been pushed over, and the stainless steel wire has been taken up, but some of the grapes are still there. Some of the vines probably go 30 feet into the top of an oak tree.

Muscadine grapes are a nice treat and usually ripen around the end of July or the first of August.
