removing M44 sight bases WITHOUT cutting the band.

My m44 needs a new barrel, slugs to .313 and a funky .311 oblong crown(?). I can either spend the money for the bullet mould, handles, dipper, melting pot, you get the idea....

OR, I can get a new Mcgowan military profile stainless steel barrel, and just put the sight bases back on after my gunsmith swaps the barrels out and cuts the extractor channel.

Less money to get the Mcgowan tube, but does anyone have any experience removing the rear sight band WITHOUT cutting it?
