Roman candle

i came by a old gun that used superposed load, like this gun
The main problem with this design is that, if you accidential discharge the wrong load, the gun will most likely blow up. And even if you treat the gun right, a spark from the first load could also set off wrong charge.

I wounder, would it be possible to make a gun that use superposed loads, that is fired like a roman candle, and ignited through the muzzle?

If the gun can chainfire reliable in succession, it’s the muzzleloaders version of a fullauto.

How can this be done in a reliable and safe way?

The ball can’t seal 100% against the bore, because then the next bullet wont fire. The ball has to be either undersized or slotted. Wad could be used as delay, like this:

Wad-ball-charge-wad-ball-charge-wad-ball-charge

The wad has to burn before the next charge can be ignited, this give the ball infront time to leave. without this delay, all loads will set off more or less simentaneously, and i think it will make the gun blow up.

With extra wad sealed accurate, it could be overcome i guess. If a roman candle firework can shoot stars through this delay principle, lead should be able to be shot to.

Another issue could be to much compression at the load at the end of the barrel, the last load to fire. I read that to hard compression can set off black powder.

I don’t know if it will be a issue with a modern substitute, like pyrodex.

Give me your thoughts.
