What distance would you sight in for suburban conflict?

The zombies have broke out of their urban quarantine zone and heading to the burbs. These zombies are kinda like regular humans and are more motivated by mayhem and bling acquisition than munching on brains. Their infestation is a mild sort, hitting a vital spot also puts them down and not get up. Some are armed and some are even cunning. Suppose you aren't in hunter/killer mode but are very keenly interested in defense. Your environment is subdivisions with fairly wooded lots about. Only wide open spaces are office and shopping center parking lots and spaces like school grounds.

Lets say you have a modern 'assault rifle' intermediate caliber, red dot scope. These zombies wear Nikes so they move fast. For some inane reasoning TPTB say you can only shoot Zombies that are threatening you with imminent body harm. Plus like I said they are almost human so could make a mistake and plug a non walking dead.

Would you tune your scope for 100 yds? 200? less? I would think less, maybe 50 yds? I am assuming your average Zombie might be holding a pistol sideways and not have a lot of range time. Maybe a few could do much longer shots but one can avoid open areas where that comes in play. Frankly I know I am not the greatest shot but pretty damn sure at 50 yards I could ventilate the walking dead even if it is moving at Usain Bolt speed. Most don't, pants on the ground is chic fashion but not made for moving.

Far fetched I know but we are dealing with warped delusional minds here. How would you conduct yourself in such a fantasy? I hope I get some advice from other than the gecko45 commandos.
