Default When will the Hatfield federal courthouse in Portland burn down?

Portland has reached a deal with feds for withdrawal of cops. Beginning Thursday, the normal deployment of feds will be restricted to inside the courthouse (previously, the city was going to fine the federal government $500 for every 15 minutes the fences remained up). State police will protect the building from outside.

"We have a clear agreement that all Customs and Border Protection and ICE officers will leave downtown Portland on Thursday. Shortly thereafter, they will go home," Brown said. "A limited contingent of federal officials – who provide security year-round to the federal courthouse – will remain and stay focused on its interior."

Oregon State Police troopers would replace the federal officers downtown to protect free speech and keep the peace, Brown said.

"They have acted as an occupying force & brought violence," Brown wrote, in part, on Twitter.

But speaking later Wednesday to reporters, the acting secretary of Homeland Security, Chad Wolf, said that federal officers would not leave Portland "until we are assured that the courthouse and other federal facilities will no longer be attacked nightly and set afire."

Quote:

Ken Cuccinelli, acting deputy secretary at DHS, said that some federal officers would be visible around the courthouse and that the additional federal officers deployed to Portland would still be downtown, just not at the courthouse.

"They will not be engaged if they are not needed. Our hope for all of us is that they will not be needed," Cuccinelli said.

On Saturday, police declared a riot when protesters broke into the Portland Police Association and "ignited a fire inside."

Quote:

...mayors from six U.S. cities penned a letter to Congress on Monday asking lawmakers to pass legislation blocking the administration from sending "unidentified federal agents" to cities without local consultation.

"This must stop. The administration’s egregious use of federal force on cities over the objection of local authorities should never happen," wrote the mayors of Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Albuquerque, Kansas City and Washington, D.C. "We welcome partnership, not partisan threats."

What do you think? Is the end of the courthouse imminent?
