Makng Your Own Reloading Primers - Cap Gun Caps

I know this subject has been covered before, but for anyone who has never heard of this, here it is.

A few years back I gave this a try just for kicks. You take a used primer, and with a pick or tack pop the anvil out of the primer cup. Place the empty cup on a very clean flat surface. With a comparably sized punch, give it a nice tap, flattening most of the previous primer strike.

Now take your paper cap gun caps. With some small scissors, cut the dot of compound out of the paper as close to the size of the primer as possible. Nestle it into the primer with pointed tweezers. Place the removed anvil back into the primer cup. With a pair of small pliers, gently squeeze it into place.

Load'em up! Trying this just once, and being pretty sloppy, I was able to get 3 out of 6 rounds to fire, and 2 of the remaining 3 on the second strike. Nothing near reliable. With better discipline and practice I'm sure the numbers could drastically improve. In a situation where this was all you had, getting 4-5 shots out of a revolver would be far better than throwing it.

It's no crazier than trying to reload .22 LR...…….
