I hope I don't jinx myself by posting this but here goes. I have 6 chickens, 5 hens and a rooster. About 4 guys I work with have them as well. I am the only one with a rooster though. They always tell me stories of how predators are eating up their chickens. Thankfully I have not had any issues at all. Nothing has even attempted to break into the coop. There are other chickens in the neighborhood that have been eaten by foxes and I know for a fact we have raccoons and black bears around and possibly coyotes as well.
My brother in law also keeps chickens and they lost a few to hawks. I notice that my chickens are herded around by the rooster and always stay under cover or on the move.
Does the presence of a rooster keep predators away or perhaps make them think twice and look for an easier meal?
