What size pack should i get?

Go to a real store like REI or Cabela's. Get some help fitting him, then go the second hand stores and see what they have that will fit. He is a growing boy, get one on the large size for him to grow into, but fits now with all the adjustments on the small size.

An external frame pack that the pack bag can be mounted high or low and has a well padded hip belt to take the weight off his shoulders.

Maybe panner's and a rack for his bike. You can push a really heavily loaded bike easier than you can pack that load on your back.
