If you want to remove fluoride from water you are extremely limited in your choices to remove it.
But the operative word in the above statement is want. Fluoride happens to be a necessary micronutrient. Your body requires it for proper bone care. Most of those expensive osteoporosis script drugs are just fancy ways to take fluoride in very large doses safely.
You don't need it in your water because you get plenty if you eat your leafy green vegetables like you are supposed to. If you think fluoride is evil then you need to take quite a few perfectly normal foods out of your diet. But if you realize that fluoride comes to you in numerous forms already then maybe you won't be so worried about it in your water.
My point is to quit worrying about fluoridated water because your body needs and knows how to process fluoride.
As long your municipal water company is honestly meeting EPA standards for drinking water then all you need is a $30 kitchen faucet carbon filter to remove excess chlorine.
That's all those juice companies use before they load it up with fructose. They make Minute Maid right down the block from me and they use activated carbon on the regular tap water here.
As for Berkey and their black filter claims that defy basic chemistry, well that's just voodoo science preying on fear.
The good filter companies don't make such outrageous longevity claims like Berkey does. Doulton, Aquarain, Propur, Aquacera, Katadyn, and British Berkefeld all offer a good product that is certainly capable of filtering dirty bayou water safely, and all are complete overkill for municipal tap water. Doulton invented the ceramic water filter science almost 200 years ago and that should be enough testament to their reputation for you to trust.
The only reason to bother with an alumina filter is if you are on well water known to have arsenic in it.
The Berkey urn is fine. They didn't even make it anyway as all those metal urns come out of India. Pull those black Berkey filters and put in some trusted Doulton candle filters, the industry benchmark standard product. As for the fluoride in the water you will likely need it on your new exercise program to lose weight.
