How to find a good credit card company?

This might seem like a really strange topic but honestly, I don't know the answer. How does a person find a good credit card company?

My wife and I have had a single credit card for over 10 years now and we generally have kept it paid off in full with perhaps periods of hard times when we held a balance on it to get us through. It's paid off now, the way I like it to be, but I tend to use it for things like pumping gas, buying groceries, paying online bills, and those kinds of things, then just paying it off at the end of the month. It saves having to go into the store when pumping gas and adds a layer of protection that feels less effective when using a debit card, which I also have and sometimes use, and makes it convenient not to have to write and mail checks.

Thing of it is, the company that we have now has only a low credit limit (there are months I have to make multiple payments just because the limit is too low), a high interest rate (when we actually have to pay anything, we don't when it's paid off), and doesn't really offer much in the way of "perks". It does offer some "points" but you'd have to spend a LOT of money to actually get anything back. (I think maybe 5 or 6 years of heavy spending on the thing netted us maybe a week of a fairly cheep motel while visiting family in another state. A few hundred bucks worth. Glad to have had it but it was a LOT of spending compared to what we got back.)

Lots of people like airline miles, and that's ok if you fly. I don't. But I do rent cars, I stay in motels, and I would consider traveling by train.

I used to get credit card offers in the mail. They don't come that way anymore. I'm bombarded with credit card offers in my email inbox, unsolicited, and I'm NOT gonna bite on any of those. My current bank doesn't have much that I'm interested in, at least they didn't last time I looked. (I'm thinking of looking at another bank soon, US Bank seems to be well liked in the area we're looking to move to.)

But seriously, how does a person shop for a good credit card these days? Seems like things have changed since... the last century. LOL!
