Shockwave Question

I got a question about theshockwave. I've read a 12ga and a 20ga, for all intents and purposes, recoil just about the same. Is this true? I've only ever ran 12ga and have no hands on eith 20ga. I just wonder how they compare in the shockwave. If they're the same or just about as close to each other I'll go with the 12ga. I'm also looking at one of the new 410 for my kids (when they come of age - they're currently 3yrs and 8mos ) and so they can have a hand me down when they turn 18
