Things certainly are looking grim right now. But I wouldn't assume at this point that we are facing a total collapse. Things are crappy now but they've gotten bad before. Unfortunately this isn't the first time we've seen such turmoil. What is certain is that the way of life we've lived for decades is definitely changing, probably permanently, and not just us, but the world right along with us. If, though, just to entertain the original question, the US did collapse, then it would definitely have an effect on most of the civilized world, being that the US is arguably the largest military and economic power today, even despite it's faults. It would definitely hurt the economies of our allies and trading partners, not to mention possibly redraw the world map a bit.
