Experiences cutting with diesel to run in kerosene appliances?

I've heard some people have had success running diesel in some kerosene appliances, such as lanterns with 100% cotton wicks, and pressure stoves. Some people recommend mixing kerosene and diesel at a 1:3 or 1:2 ratio. Others have recommended adding some 90% isopropyl or denatured alcohol to the diesel, a couple of ounces per gallon.

I'm wondering if you have any experience doing this, what did you experiment with, and what worked/didn't work?

We have a 275Gal basement tank which we fill with home heating oil diesel annually, and if SHTF I'd love to have a practical use for it in terms of cooking/heating.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
